FASD Network

The FASD network is a support group for families raising children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders in the Tees Valley area which includes: Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington and Redcar & Cleveland.  Since we are the only FASD support group in the North East and Cumbria, we now have families in our network who are from as far north as Berwick and as far south as Northallerton.  So if you are from outside of the Tees Valley we want to extend a warm welcome to you and invite you to participate too.  If you are in the wider North East and Cumbria region and feel that we are too far away for you to travel to, just register yourself as a family with us and we will let you know about activities that may be of interest to you.  As numbers increase from your area we will try and help  establish a local network near you.

This group was started in October 2011 by a local foster carer and a local adopter who have children with FASD.  There has been a growing realisation that families are struggling in isolation and in need of other families to share their stories with and to share tips and advice with.  We have initiated support for parents, relatives, foster carers and adopters who are raising children with FASD.  Professionals working in a related field are welcome to come and learn alongside the families.

In this region there is a lack of available information and training and public awareness about FASD and as families we are wanting to primarily care for one another but also expand the knowledge and information within the local community and see change occur at governmental level.

Together we seek to care for our magnificent children and give them the best possible future which they so richly deserve.  Please join us for our informal and friendly support groups.
